Today's Run
Superhumans or just human?
Found this on youtube. Good, informative video...even though they got Christopher McDougall's name wrong and said "John" McDougall at one point :

Tonight's Run
Had a bit of a slow run with my dog Jack. He kept my pace down, which was probably a good thing, since it was only my second run in my VFFs. It's definitely much more of a calf workout running barefoot style! Next run should be better. I have to build up my stamina again after not running for 3 months.

2 Miles
A 2 mile run in my normal running shoes was a little weird after running in the VFFs. It felt totally unnatural, and I could tell I was running a lot slower than normal.
It made me really think about whether I was hitting heel first or with the ball of my foot. It was pretty tiring, and I couldn't get into my run. All in all, not too bad...10 minute miles, but I was a little frustrated. Transitioning to barefoot running is not that easy.
Here is the summary of my run:

Barefoot Running: My First Mile
Well, I ran my first mile in my new Vibram Five Fingers. It actually felt really good, even though it was a completely alien experience. Your feet naturally adjust when running, and you strike with the ball of your foot instead of heel striking.
I'm slowly introducing myself to them once-weekly to avoid injury. Here is a snapshot of a summary of my run, and a pic of the Vibrams:

Nike+ GPS
I have been meaning to post a blog about the Nike+ GPS App for months, but sadly, I have fallen off the wagon lately with my running. Time to get back to it!
The Nike+ App is a wonderful, and cheap running companion for your iPhone. For 1.99, I don't think you can do any better. This App does everything I need for tracking runs. It tracks distance, pace, and it will track your route through google maps.
The interface is a clear, concise, and beautiful presentation. It makes setting up your runs a breeze, and just an overall easy experience.
As you can see, from the main screen, you have the choice to start a new run or take on your last run to try and improve your time. The Nike Tag feature is new, and I have yet to try it, so more on that later...
For starting a new run, just make that selection from the home screen, and choose whether you want to do a basic run, run for a set time, or for a set distance.
Just select a run, and you're off. The greatest part of the Nike+ App, is the integration of your music into the workout. You can choose a certain artist, or album, or playlist.
You can change it up at any point during your run. Towards the end of your run, you can set a powersong of your choice to push yourself to end strong!
At the end of your run, check your distance, or:
Check your pace. The green or red in your run shows you where you were running your fastest, or slowest.
You can also check your route info, share your run with others, and even describe the run to remember the weather, terrain, and how you felt.
I love this App! If you have an iPhone, and love to run with it, get this App now!

It's been awhile!
It's been a long time since I've updated the blog. I plan to get started again this week. I've just recently ordered some Nike Free Plus shoes to try out something closer to barefoot running! More to come soon!
